Son of a Renowned General——Dr. Shi Xiu,

Dr. Shi Xiu was born in Luoyang, Henan Province in 1943. He is the son of the distinguished Kuomintang general Shi Jue and grew up in Taiwan in his early years. He graduated from Tainan Chenggong University (now National Cheng Kung University) and later pursued further studies at RWTH Aachen University in Germany, where he obtained a Doctor of Science degree.With decades of dedication to Taiwan’s optoelectronics and semiconductor sectors, Dr. Shi Xiu is honored by the industry as the "Father of Taiwan’s LED Industry" or the "Originator of LED Technology Commercialization in Taiwan".

He played a pivotal role in formulating and advancing Taiwan’s LED industry policies, driving LED technology from laboratory research to large-scale commercial production, and laying the foundation for Taiwan to emerge as a global hub for LED manufacturing.

Key Experiences and Contributions

1. Founded Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (formerly Powerchip Semiconductor), served as its chairman, and promoted the development of DRAM and other memory chip manufacturing.

2. Established and chaired Epistar Corporation, a world-leading manufacturer of LED epitaxial wafers and chips.

3. Held senior management positions at X 磊 Micro Manufacturing Co., Ltd. (New Ray Microfabrication Co., Ltd.), advancing the progress of microfabrication technologies.

4. Served long-term as a standing director of the Taiwan Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers' Association (TEEMA) and chairman of its Optoelectronics Committee, actively participating in industry policy formulation and cross-strait optoelectronics cooperation.

Dr. Shi Xiu holds a number of international invention patents, including more than 9 core patents in fields such as Micro-Opto-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MOEMS), LED packaging, and automotive semiconductors.
