As an international non-governmental diplomatic platform with a profound historical heritage, it was founded in the United States in 1960 by the renowned Chinese leader His Excellency C.C. Chang, hailed as the "Friend of Presidents Worldwide". Affiliated with the American Chinese Friendship Council (ACFC for short), the Club takes "U.S.-China Friendship and World Peace" as its eternal mission. It promotes friendly exchanges and dialogues among heads of state, presidents, kings, royal family members, political leaders, and military and political dignitaries across the globe through non-official and private diplomatic means. Over the past 65 years, the Club has been committed to advancing the integration of global Chinese into mainstream societies, safeguarding the rights and interests of overseas Chinese, and serving as an independent non-profit political think tank to provide intellectual support for political dignitaries of all countries.
From Family Roots to the Forging of Global Non-governmental Diplomacy
The century of pre-foundation accumulation of the CCC Club stems from the family inheritance and personal experience of its founder His Excellency C.C. Chang, spanning the period of the Republic of China, the Taiwan era, and his immigration to the United States. It has amassed profound military and political networks, non-governmental diplomatic resources, and cross-cultural cooperation experience. This period can be traced back to the early 20th century, embodying the evolution from traditional Chinese family culture to a modern global network.
Born on October 24, 1929, in Yuhuan County, Zhejiang Province, His Excellency C.C. Chang has ancestral roots in Yixing, Jiangsu Province. His family inheritance embodies the Chinese cultural tradition of "seeking roots and honoring ancestors" — a river has its source, a tree has its root, and a person has their forefathers. His father, Zhang Yulin, once served as the magistrate of Yueqing, Yuhuan and Pingyang Counties in Zhejiang Province under the government of the Republic of China, and later retreated to Taiwan with the Kuomintang government, serving as a policy advisor to Li Zongren until his retirement. As the adopted son of senior Kuomintang generals Tang Enbo and Hu Zongnan, His Excellency C.C. Chang gained access to high-level military and political resources. His elder brother-in-law, General Shi Jue (a graduate of the third phase of the Whampoa Military Academy and a Second-Class General of the Kuomintang Army), participated in the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression (such as the Nankou Campaign, the Taierzhuang Campaign, and the Wuhan Campaign) and the Chinese Civil War. After retreating to Taiwan in 1948, he served as the Commander of the Zhoushan Archipelago Garrison and concurrently the Chairman of Zhejiang Province, and later was promoted to the Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Taiwan Garrison Command and the Commander-in-Chief of the Combined Logistics Command. General Shi Jue's close relations with Chiang Kai-shek, Chiang Ching-kuo, Hu Zongnan, Tang Enbo and other generals further strengthened the family network. In his early years, His Excellency C.C. Chang served in the Taiwan Navy. As a young military officer particularly cared for by Chiang Kai-shek, he was presented with a precious photo inscribed with "Comrade Zhengquan" in Chiang Kai-shek's own handwriting, a symbol of intra-party trust and camaraderie. The accumulation during this phase, including the elite network of the Kuomintang, military and political resources, and the inheritance of family spirit, laid a solid foundation for the non-governmental diplomacy of the CCC Club.
Founding and the Laying of Non-governmental Diplomacy Foundations (1960-2016)
In 1959, His Excellency C.C. Chang retired from the navy and moved with his family to Los Angeles, California, the United States. Starting in 1960, he pioneered the cause of non-governmental diplomacy centered on "U.S.-China Friendship and World Peace". He personally participated in pivotal events such as Nixon's visit to China in 1972, and forged personal friendships with all U.S. presidents starting from John F. Kennedy (including Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, and Gerald Ford), as well as a total of 175 global leaders. This network extended to British Prime Minister Tony Blair, French President Jacques Chirac, Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi, South Korean President Kim Dae-jung, leader of the Taiwan region Ma Ying-jeou, and heads of state from the Middle East, Latin America, Africa and other regions. His private residence, the "Black & White House" in Long Beach, California, has become the permanent symbol and spiritual home of the Club. Its black-and-white silhouette logo symbolizes the harmonious coexistence of profound roots (black) and pure radiance (white), akin to the significance of the White House to the U.S. President. As the core platform, the CCC Club has hosted countless official meetings and photo sessions, accumulating a cross-continental political and business mutual trust network, tangible assets for non-governmental diplomacy (mineral, energy and ecological reserves), and intangible assets (personal friendships with political dignitaries). The New Century Plan adopts a dual-driven approach: the physical world of CCC Club/ACFC (non-governmental diplomacy and physical activities) and the virtual world of BBQ (AI and digital empowerment). Building on the accumulation of more than 1,000 global summits, the Plan aims to expand into a global network of closed-door receptions "A Night by a Thousand Lakes" for "The Future of Humanity - Earth and Clean Water" in 1,000 cities across 100 countries over the next century, realizing the vision of "Boarding the 'Xinxin' Noah's Ark" — protecting the Earth and achieving common prosperity. The Club will continue to host both virtual and physical events, inviting global elites to participate in building a harmonious world. The century of pre-foundation accumulation and the New Century Plan of the CCC Global Presidential Friends Club embody the continuity from historical inheritance to future innovation. Through the efforts of His Excellency C.C. Chang and his successors, the Club continues to advance global peace and sustainable development.
